When the Small Creatures Wake release and White Ribbon Campaign

White Ribbon Day was on the 25th November and the start of sixteen days of action to end male violence against women and girls. This year, the theme is ‘IT STARTS WITH MEN’ and the aim for men to address the attitudes and behaviours that contribute to a fear of violence for women in their day-to-day lives.

As a White Ribbon supporter organisation, Write on the Tyne is campaigning through two events at local libraries. On Saturday 30th, I am at Whitley Bay Library, and on the evening of 4th December, at The Word, South Shields (links below). Both are free events and I would love to see you there.

At both events, I will be talking about my former career in social care, including working frontline and developing models of support for people experiencing domestic abuse, as well as how we can use writing as a platform to campaign and advocate for social change. I will also be joined by some fantastic guests.

At Whitley Bay, I will be joined by our local domestic abuse co-ordinator. Additionally, we will have readings from local women who attend a domestic abuse support group. Plus, I will be talking with debut author, Brigid Griffin. On 29th November, Write on the Tyne publishes Brigid’s fiction debut, When the Small Creatures Wake, which features a storyline of domestic abuse.

Brigid and I will be at The Word, next week, joined by Julie Robinson from Impact Family Services, who offer support to people experiencing domestic abuse in South Tyneside.
