Helen Aitchison
Helen is the director of Write on the Tyne. After spending 20 years working in social care field (including working front-line with victims of domestic abuse and over a decade in senior management of homeless services, services for victims of exploitation, and services for young people), she began a journey of writing.
Signed with UK based Cahill Davis Publishing, her debut novel, The Dinner Club was released in March 2022. She re-signed with CDP for her second novel, The Life and Love (Attempts) of Kitty Cook, which was released in March 2023. Helen’s third novel, 31 Days of May is due for release in April 2024.

Write on the Tyne is Helen’s way to combine her passions; working with people and promoting inclusion, alongside a love of writing and teaching. Helen delivers a range of free courses (grant dependant) and community projects across the North East, as well as working with charities to document and publish stories of local people – helping people to tell their stories and get their voices heard.
Write on the Tyne has a publishing house service, where community and charity commissions are published, alongside local author’s non-fiction and fictional work (through usual publishing house submission process).
Alongside Write on the Tyne and working with her own publisher, Helen is on the board of trustees at Age UK North Tyneside, is a journalist at Radio Gateshead, and is a resident agony aunt at Pick Me Up! Magazine.
